The Department of Biochemistry at El-Amin University offers a well-rounded program that explores the chemical processes within living organisms, with a focus on applications relevant to Nigeria’s health, agricultural, and environmental sectors. Our curriculum includes core topics such as molecular biology, enzymology, metabolism, and biochemical techniques, providing students with both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills. Courses emphasize problem-solving and critical thinking, preparing students to apply biochemical principles in real-world contexts.

The Biochemistry programme is structured to offer students a comprehensive understanding of chemical processes in living organisms from single to multi-cellular entities, encompassing plants and animals. The initial year focuses on establishing a robust foundation in relevant science subjects, while subsequent years delve into the fundamental elements of life processes to equip students with the ability to comprehend deviations from normalcy in the final year.
The Biochemistry programme aims to educate students on the chemical processes occurring in living organisms, elucidating the causes of deviations that can lead to pathological conditions. Moreover, it empowers students with the knowledge to manipulate normal processes for desired outcomes, enabling employment opportunities in health, food, and related industries or self-employment.
Objectives of the Biochemistry degree programme include providing students with a solid biochemical knowledge base and practical skills, fostering problem-solving abilities in theoretical and practical biochemistry scenarios, nurturing transferable skills valuable in both biochemical and non-biochemical fields, facilitating further studies in specialized biochemistry areas or interdisciplinary fields, instilling an appreciation for interdisciplinary approaches to complex life issues, and highlighting the significance of biochemistry in various developmental aspects.
